Looks like it’s going to be warm-ish today with some likely showers later on. Mostly dry this weekend with cool mornings and warm afternoons. Not a bad outlook for this rollercoaster we’ve been on. [NashSevereWx]
Flock is so terrible that tons of cities around the country have gutted their contracts and stopped working with the company. That’s not occurring in a vacuum, kids. You can google that because we’re not gonna spend several pages explaining it. Want to report a Flock location? You can do that because it’s your right as an American. If you see it in public, you can talk about it. And you should. [DeFlock & Have I Been Flocked?]
Tennessee’s EV battery boom is pivoting toward data centers. That market, too, will ultimately collapse until the country changes direction but there’s no sense in holding your breath. If you want our well-informed opinion? The state should focus on building out its Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn drag queen impersonation industry. Dolly and Lo-retty captivate the bachelorette group hive minds and they don’t even require TIF districts. If you’re in the capitol, write that down. [The Tennesseean]
Meemaws, get your modesty shawls and church fans ready. Sister Act is back and being presented by the Nashville Repertory Theatre (come on, this is sorta the south, we are uncomfortable with this fancy spelling) April 10 through April 19. We’re telling you now so you can buy your tickets to see it at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center before they’re sold out. Hop to it, bunnies. [TPAC]
FEMA has expanded public assistance eligibility for those impacted by the ice storm. The program provides grant funding to those applicants to support emergency response, debris removal, and the repair or restoration of damaged public infrastructure. [News Channel 5]
This still haunts us so it’s gonna haunt you, too. Hold on tight. Attorneys for 19 Tennessee foster children have filed a motion for an emergency preliminary injunction in their lawsuit against the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services asking a judge to immediately step in and end the “inhumane conditions” in transitional homes. [WKRN]
Some of y’all need to put down the hot dog water for a few days and dry out. The Convention Center Authority has approved a deal allowing space man’s worm hole digging company to use property on the west side of the convention center. Leaders say a tunnel station could be added there (it won’t be because we all know this isn’t panning out) down the road but would require separate approval. [FOX17]
Surprise, surrrrprise! A Vanderbilt poll shows that everybody disapproves of the Nashville Electric Service after that nightmarish ice storm. And we’re all bothered by city leadership or lack thereof. [WSMV]
Some of that negativity might have something to do with the fact that insane stuff like this is occurring. Ratepayers are coughing up nearly $150,000 for off-duty po-leece to provide 24/7 security at the homes of of the company’s executives. That’s not for a year, kids, that’s just for six weeks. [More WSMV]
Need something to listen to while you’re getting your Costco glizzy and sody pop this weekend? Here’s a cool podcast episode about Nashville’s buried Native American history and the repatriation movement. We promise it’s way more interesting and worthwhile than you’re probably thinking. And it all starts at the Brentwood Library. [WPLN]
Is it really okay to be southern at Vanderbilt? That’s what the rich kids are frowning about these days. They also apparently think hot chicken is emblematic of the south and not just a passing food fad resurrected from the 30s for rich white people buying cowboy boots. TL;DR: Vandy is filled with judgmental outsiders with no appreciation for culture. [Vanderbilt Hustler]
Big mad about your tax bill in Davidson County? Then you might want to get more involved and pay more attention. The Assessor of Property Vivian Wilhoite and staff met with members of the Business Coalition to provide clarity on the 2025 reappraisal process, property values, and the factors impacting recent tax bills across Davidson County. [TN Tribune]
How long have we been hyping up the Nashville SUNN here at the Meemaw Gossip Emporium? We’re glad someone else finally noticed. The city has a “new” print newspaper run by high school students and here’s more about it. [Nashville Banner]
Here’s a series of words we never thought we’d be typing out while biting our tongue. Charlie Kirk’s mentor, the “Father of Modern Cheerleading”, died in a freak pickleball accident in Memphis. Turning Point USA described Webb as a “visionary who helped shape generations of young leaders and believed deeply in the power of community and country”. [People Magazine & WSMV]
Keeping up with what’s happening in your name here in Nashville? Imminent state legislation would tee up expansion for Music City Center, while also claiming its giant surplus to fund $300 million of East Bank infrastructure projects and make other downtown-focused spending. [Nashville Business Journal]
