Shakti Power Flow

This heated class is inspired to ignite Shakti, the pure, boundless, creative energy within in each of us. The power vinyasa yoga practice is an invigorating, healing, detoxifying sequence that links movement of the body with the power of the breath. The practice is available to all, with modifications and variations of the poses. The practice builds strength, improves flexibility, magnifies your body’s energy, and calms your mind by focusing on the present moment and breath.

Community Power Flow classes are Shakti Power Flow classes for a $5 drop-in.

Shakti Strength

This 45 minute HIIT-inspired class blends strength training, cardio and power yoga. We created this practice to build muscle, get your heart rate going, and empower all fitness levels. With music to get you going and a heated room to help bring the sweat, Shakti Strength is a fun and lively full body workout. Get ready to sweat and shine!

Shiva Vinyasa

For students newer to yoga or experienced students who wish to reconnect with key elements of their yoga practice, this unheated class focuses on the fundamentals with an emphasis on breath and alignment. Students will be introduced to postures like basic backbends, twists, binds, and have the opportunity for movement, meditation, and relaxation.

Yin Yoga

A style of yoga that focuses on opening the connective tissues in the body, cartilage, ligaments, and joints. Yin Yoga is an unheated class that involves holding deep stretches for longer periods of time – 30 seconds to several minutes – relaxing the body in the poses, and finding stillness. This opening into the deep, dense tissues of the body provides expanded range of movement, healing and repair, lubrication of the joints, and opportunities for meditation. The energetic meridians of the body are believed to run in line with the body’s connective tissues, allowing you to clear and revitalize energetic pathways from your toes to your fingertips.

Restorative Yoga

Similar to Yin, this unheated restorative class with long holds compliments our Power Flow practice by relieving soreness and accumulated stress, improving posture and awareness of breath, and lengthening specific muscles in order to reestablish their ideal tone. This class offers a nourishing, opening practice that incorporates props such as bolsters, tennis balls, and blocks to facilitate healing, the release of tight muscles, trigger points, and surrounding connective tissues.

Awaken & Unwind

This gentle unheated vinyasa is designed to center, nourish and restore after a long week. A sweet slow flow is followed by a luxurious, extended savasana with healing essential oils. Leave feeling clear and refreshed for the week ahead.

Yoga in Life

This once-monthly 75 minute class is unheated and will incorporate meditations, reflective writing and personal inquiry to take the yoga practice from the mat to day to day life. We will gain insight into intentions and places we are stuck. Using this insight we open and heal ourselves and therefore all our relationships. All levels welcome. Please bring a journal and a writing utensil. There will be no yoga poses in this class, except for a comfortable seated position.

Third Wednesday of every month 6:30pm

Ashtanga Primary Series

This is an advanced, unheated practice and we advise that students have previous experience in vinyasa and/or ashtanga yoga asana. The Primary series as taught by K. Pattabhi Jois is practiced in its entirety at a group pace. This dynamic, precise, and progressive sequencing of yoga postures is accompanied by “free breathing with sound” as described by Sharath Jois. Quickly creating internal strength while resolving mental and structural imbalances this class includes full and half lotus positions, arm balances, back bends, and headstands.

Karma Yoga

This is our only 100% cash or check, donation-based class. All of the proceeds from this class are donated to a local or global nonprofit organization whose mission and work inspires us. By attending this class and giving any amount, you are empowering these organizations to continue their work. Check out our blog to learn more about the nonprofits we work with.

Fright Night (1985) is the Final Film this season for The Groove’s “Fright Night Fridays in October.” The Groove presents Fright Night Fridays in October free film viewing. Each Friday in October they are showcasing a hand selected horror movie. Each film will be screened in the back yard of The Groove. They plan to have free popcorn and hopefully beverages. This is a free event, for all ages. But do keep in mind these movies will probably be rated R. Make sure to bring your own chair.

This Week

Since we chose an overseas poster the description is needed. “A horror-obsessed teenager discovers that his next door neighbour is a murderous vampire. He tries to convince the police, his family and friends but to no avail. Now, he must take matters into his own hands.”

We recently discovered Blooma Nashville. I know, how did we not know. We’re always hearing about things after so many already know. Pass along companies like Blooma.

Their Story by Blooma:

Blooma Nashville Yoga is a locally-owned sister studio to Blooma Inc., which is based in Minneapolis. Blooma Nashville Director Jennifer Derryberry Mann has been part of the Blooma Inc. family from the very beginning, when she helped dear friend & Blooma founder Sarah Longacre Ehlers bring the vision for a prenatal/postnatal yoga studio into being in 2007. After helping open the doors to Blooma Minneapolis, Jenni taught there for two years, falling deeply in love with the support, the community, and the connection to birth, babies, and women becoming mothers.

When Jenni and her family moved to the South shortly after the birth of their second child, Jenni deeply felt the loss of the Blooma community. The support and love she’d experienced there was her introduction to the importance of self-care. The next two years of motherhood — with two little ones and a dose of postpartum depression — set the stage for the birth of Blooma Nashville Yoga in 2014.

Jenni is honored to hold space for women becoming mothers in Nashville. It is a blessing to join together with yoga teachers, wellness professionals, educators, and passionate mama advocates to weave a sweet web of Blooma love here in middle Tennessee! The studio brings together the most helpful resources for pregnancy, birth, parenting, and women’s continued self-care and self-discovery.

Words Caught in My Throat: A Film Seminar for Black 7th/8th Grade Girls

Designed to boost black female voices on both sides of the camera, Words Caught in My Throat provides an opportunity for African American girls to view and discuss films featuring girls and women of color, discuss the way identity is portrayed in film, and recognize their potential as storytellers. Taking place on three Saturdays, October 27, November 3 and November 10 at the Belcourt Theatre, girls will engage in creative writing exercises that result in personal narrative poems. A black female film crew will be on hand to capture footage of the girls performing their poems, which will later be used in a short film.


Sat, Oct 27, 10am-1pm: Students screen and discuss short films and follow with a creative writing exercise

Sat, Nov 3, 10am-1pm: Students use their writing exercise to create personal poems

Sat, Nov 10, 10am-1pm: Students perform poems on camera and observe the production process


Participation is free, but girls must complete an application to be selected. Applications are due Wed, Oct 17. Attendance is limited to 15 girls. The seminar is designed to be taken in its entirety—i.e. no single sessions.

The seminar is led by Melissa Gordon, Metro Nashville Public Schools Office of Restorative Practices, and Allison Inman, Belcourt Theatre, and made possible with support for the Highlander Education and Research Center’s We Shall Overcome Fund. Meleisha J. Edwards will lead the film crew.
