When I purchased Potlikker Papers I wanted to like it. I had met Mr. Edge at Southern Foodways Alliance events, read his writing and listened to him on the Gravy Podcast. I was not disappointed but was enthralled by each chapter. I don’t binge read many things but this book was able to tell Food stories through history of the south while also telling stories of the south through the plate. It’s a wonderful thing to see the south change before our eyes in Nashville but John shows that history started way before now. Also, that my love of Southern Food and West African food makes sense.
