So What is Vegan Ice Cream and “Why?” We turn to KoKos Vegan Ice Cream for Answers.

0

KoKos Vegan Ice Cream opened last month in their Porter Road location. They’ve done pop-ups for quite a while now and people are falling in love with non-dairy Vegan Ice Cream. But why and what is it?

WHAT

Let’s hand off to KoKos for this one:

I don’t know about you, but dairy free ice cream has left many of us less than impressed. That’s why we made it our mission to change that! After extensive experimenting, traveling and tasting, we landed on our proprietary formula for the BEST vegan ice cream we’ve ever had. European gelato meets American hard ice cream. It really is in a class of its own.

Rich, creamy and smooth like a premium ice cream should be!  All the right feels, made with all the right stuff…

So what’s in it?

Our base recipe consists of a 100 % organic coconut milk, organic evaporated cane sugar, pink Himalayan salt, sour salt and organic Indian cluster bean and a lot of love.

We rotate our flavors frequently to keep it fun! We use organic ingredients where we can and offer gluten free and soy free options.

Oh and one more thing! We chose to not only make our ice cream vegan, but also nut free!  We wanted to create a low allergen ice cream that everyone can enjoy! *

* Manufactured in a shared kitchen facility. Cross contamination could be a risk for severe allergies.

WHY VEGAN ICE CREAM

Well, first we must be a bit gross but according to NutritionFacts.org “The elimination of all dairy products was found to cure constipation in up to 100% of kids tested, leading to a resolution of rectal inflammation and complications such as anal fissures.” So, the switch for our young ones to Vegan Ice Cream can be really helpful but what about adults? Again, according to NutritionFacts.org  studies have shown the galactose in milk may explain why milk consumption is associated with significantly higher risk of hip fractures, cancer, and premature death. So, it’s a healthier option.

So, make the switch and live a better more tasty life with KOKOS Artisan Vegan Ice Cream. Click the name to find them on Facebook. Also click HERE to follow them on Instagram. Don’t forget to look for the bike around town or swing by the shop at 729 Porter Rd!

A Wonderful Spot To Find Uniquely Nashville Gifts, Gift Horse Nashville!

0

Jess at Gift Horse Nashville is a great example of why shopping local is great. Not only is she a great resource for buying local, which she is. She also has curated a wonderful store with perfect designs and thought to give to friends and family. We recently looked around Gift Horse Nashville.

A Look Inside

From Gift Horse:

Shopping for unique, affordable gifts in East Nashville just got easier: Gift Horse — an art focused shop stocking paper goods, home goods, handmade gifts and more — is now open in the Shoppes on Fatherland.

The shop grew in part out of co owners Jessica Maloan and Andy Vastagh’s respective backgrounds in design and printmaking: Vastagh runs Nashville design and screen print company Boss Construction; Maloan — one of the local craft market Porter Flea’s cofounders — and maker behind Pine Street Makery, screen printed home goods.

Gift Horse has a prominent focus on paper goods, including art prints and greeting cards, but a broader appreciation of independent artists drives the shop’s overall aesthetic — Gift Horse’s shelves highlight an array of regional makers, including Boss Construction, Cold Gold, Pinch Pot Love, Rebecca Green Illustration, and many more.

Book available for Pre-Order at Parnassus

The Following was originally posted www.parnassusbooks.net:

Salon@615 is pleased to present a conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham, in conversation with Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam. The pair will be discussing Meacham’s new book, The Soul of America, in which Meacham helps us understand the present moment in American politics and life by looking back at critical times in our history when hope overcame division and fear.

This is a ticketed event, and each ticket will include a copy of The soul of America. Jon Meacham will be signing books following the program.

About the book:

Our current climate of partisan fury is not new, and in The Soul of America Meacham shows us how what Abraham Lincoln called the “better angels of our nature” have repeatedly won the day. Painting surprising portraits of Lincoln and other presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, and Lyndon B. Johnson, and illuminating the courage of such influential citizen activists as Martin Luther King, Jr., early suffragettes Alice Paul and Carrie Chapman Catt, civil rights pioneers Rosa Parks and John Lewis, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, and Army-McCarthy hearings lawyer Joseph N. Welch, Meacham brings vividly to life turning points in American history. He writes about the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the birth of the Lost Cause; the backlash against immigrants in the First World War and the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1920s; the fight for women’s rights; the demagoguery of Huey Long and Father Coughlin and the isolationist work of America First in the years before World War II; the anti-Communist witch-hunts led by Senator Joseph McCarthy; and Lyndon Johnson’s crusade against Jim Crow. Each of these dramatic hours in our national life have been shaped by the contest to lead the country to look forward rather than back, to assert hope over fear–a struggle that continues even now.

While the American story has not always–or even often–been heroic, we have been sustained by a belief in progress even in the gloomiest of times. In this inspiring book, Meacham reassures us, “The good news is that we have come through such darkness before”–as, time and again, Lincoln’s better angels have found a way to prevail.

About the author:

JON MEACHAM is a Pulitzer Prize-winning presidential historian. A contributing writer for The New York Times Book Review and a contributing editor of Time magazine, he is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker BushThomas Jefferson: The Art of Power, American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House, American Gospel, and Franklin and Winston. Meacham lives in Nashville, Tennessee.

About Governor Haslam:

In 2014, Bill Haslam was re-elected Tennessee’s governor with the largest victory in modern Tennessee history.
Under his leadership, Tennessee is recognized as a national leader in education, economic development, and efficient and effective government. The governor worked with the Tennessee General Assembly in 2017 to pass the largest tax cut in Tennessee history while delivering a safe, reliable and debt-free transportation system. He and his administration have cut $578 million in year to year spending, balanced the budget every year, ensured Tennessee has the lowest debt in the country and more than tripled the state’s savings account. For the second time in state history, Tennessee has been awarded a triple AAA bond rating.

Governor Haslam and his wife, Crissy, have been married for 36 years and are blessed with three children and seven grandchildren.

Five Daughters Bakery offers a fine Vegan Donut to start your beautiful Friday Morning!

0

We went searching for donuts in East Nashville and we knew we wanted to try the Vegan Donuts we heard about from Five Daughters. We arrived and were greeted by a wonderful employee who showed us our three options in their vegan variety. Our options were the Purist a glazed variety which we had before. It’s a great donut for someone who doesn’t want all the icing. We really wanted this one but needed to try the other types. So our options came down to Strawberry Glaze or Lemon Blueberry. Although we tend to go for Lemon Blueberry the shops decor made our subconscience choose the Strawberry Glaze.

First off, this donut is sweet. Not in a bad way. The frosting on it will satisfy any sweet tooth and it’s heavy which satisfy any hunger. Would we suggest it as the first option when going for Vegan Donuts at Five Daughters? No, we wouldn’t. The Purist is still the leader but this is a wonderful option if you want a really sweet strawberry taste.

Birthdays, bachelorette parties, engagements, because it’s Wednesday…. So many gift ideas at Harlan Ruby!

0

Tis the Season to Celebrate at Harlan Ruby. It doesn’t matter the time of year, Harlan Ruby has a quirky and fun way to celebrate. Birthdays, bachelorette parties, engagements, Westworld Episode Four party, Preds are playing…. really if you need it to look festive and to pop with fun, Harlan Ruby can make it happen.

How they would Describe it!

Harlan Ruby is woman-owned and operated balloon, gift, party, stationery shoppe in East Nashville, Tennessee run by mother-daughter duo: Sunny Becks & Fiona Flaherty. The shoppe is ‘all color, all the time’ with approximately 50% of the products being produced in-house with a neighboring workshop for classes and parties.

Sunny spent most of her entrepreneurial years running a successful hula hoop business (classes and ultimately the world’s first hoop supply company) however, once her oldest daughter wrapped up her schooling at Parsons The New School for Design in NYC (and a small stint in LA) Sunny suggested Fiona launch her own brand back in her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee.

Transforming the hoop shoppe into a retail location, they quickly put Fiona’s Fashion Illustration degree to use and self-produced a whimsical line of hand-illustrated, hand-lettered goods under the name Cheers Fifi. Today they continue their collaboration on other brands such as Idol Light and Nevertheless She Persisted while also producing small-batch runs for local artists.

While Harlan Ruby officially launched with 100% of the products being produced in-house, as the shop grew they began to incorporate colorful, sassy, heart-felt products inspired by the bright shops of Los Angeles Fiona fell in love with while living there. “We like to focus on colorful, forward-thinking/thoughtful companies from around the world to appeal to our people: grownups who aim to live life with a youthful atheistic”.

While the shop is still young, they have been attracting the attention of fabulous people like Kacey Musgraves and Elsie Larson (A Beautiful Mess). Now it’s your turn…

Come have fun with us! Hours: Monday – Friday 10-6, Saturday & Sunday 9-3. 805 Woodland Street, Suite 301 Nashville TN 37206.

Don’t forget to check their website out at www.harlanruby.com as well as follow them on Instagram and Facebook.
